Paul is a guitarist / composer whose styles and span of genre's reflect his age and maturity as a musician and leader.
Paul regularly performs his repertoire of original solo finger style songs on dates in the mid-Atlantic region and draws on an eclectic and wonderful close knit family of musical travelers for larger events and festivals. His latest musical adventure is "Out Of A Blue Sky". A band dedicated to simply playing songs they love in what-ever genre, or new compositions of our own.
Paul grew up in the mountains of Central VA (Lynchburg) where the influences of Clarence White, Don Reno, and other blue grass greats of that area and time left an indelible stamp on his phrasing and approach to the guitar. Later in life he embraced many other forms of music in both his writing, and performance, having worked with greats like Brian Mullens, (Boulder/ Laughing Hands & Colcannon), Tom & Will McCabe among many others to numerous to mention.
Paul's rhythm style was early on heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell, and his finger-style and chordal approach owes much to John Fahhey, Clarence White, and Ralph Towner. These influences have left their stamp on Paul's playing, but it is really its own thing. You have to hear it, to get it.
Paul traveled and lived in a wide variety of places in America from the mid 80's through 2000 Learning, playing and listening. Including a 9 year sojourn in Boulder CO where he starting to seriously study jazz guitar. From then until mid 2008 he lived and worked in the art-stew-pot of Asheville NC with his life-love Janie, and his two cats "Harry the Beans-Black", and "Tillie the redneck girlfriend".
Paul and Janie have embarked on a new adventure, moving back to their old hometown in VA to be closer to family. More on that as it unfolds!
Paul plays and endorses Bill Moll Custom Archtops and Guitars, and uses AER amps, and DTAR preamps in performance
