Out of A Blue Sky is a group of musicians from Central VA who play what they refer to as "Future Roots" Jazz. Its jazz that is solidly grounded in the traditions of the greats of the past, but also owes a lot to the country blues of Taj Mahal, the songsmith of Joni Mitchell, and the creative juice of its core players.

Paul Dempsey / Guitars / Midi Guitar

Jim Robertson / Violin / Mandolin / Dobro / Flute / Squeezebox / Bass

Pat Lawrence / Chris Kjorness / Andy Aeuchbacher / Bass.

Phil Riddle / Drums & Percussions

Sometimes the player needs to be armed. Simply select something and it'll start to load. Give it time to load the first 400k, and off it'll go.

About the songs in the player

Notes from Paul about the songs:
All the songs in the player with the exception of River, and Three Chords And The Truth are original material, either songs of my own or out of the "Top Secret" Catalog.

Gone is also called "Maybe I'll Feel Better When You're" (Gone), and is off the Top Secret Project. Vocals by Tom Hailey.

Dittos for Zero Bobbin, and Kitchen of Our Minds. OOABS covers this material as close as we can get to those renditions I did with Tom.

Spanish Girls is a Bossa romp I wrote about 15 years ago.

River is our ever evolving rendition of the Joni Mitchell tune.

Three Chords and The Truth is our cover of a great song by Ry Cooder off his project "My Name Is Buddy".

Blue Heart is a blues-influenced jazz piece I originally wrote sometime around 1975 or so. Its been evolving. I wish I had a recording of where it started from. There was some cool stuff there I think has been lost over the years.

The Parting Glass is a starting point for our take on the classic.

Do You Love is mostly an original composition. I took the melody to an old Irish ballad (Do You Love An Apple) and wound it as a theme throughout. The melody exists in whole in two places as an anchor. The rest of the recording is an original comp,.

Red House Road is an original piedmont blues based song.

Honeysuckle Rose is our take on the old standard. Jim does a fine job here on fiddle and vocals.
